About Applied Artificial Intelligence, MSc - at University of Exeter

There is currently a lot of interest in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques in the industrial and commercial sectors. Theoretical and practical knowledge of AI programming techniques, such as evolutionary computation (genetic algorithms, genetic programming) and neural networks, are now widely assumed on the part of programmers and researchers working in leading-edge organisations. To reflect this, the MSc in Applied Artificial Intelligence equips students with the skills and knowledge to stay at the forefront of this rapidly developing area. It is designed to give you the latest knowledge and computational skills in the areas of machine learning and intelligent discovery methods. The programme also provides the opportunity to learn more about the application of AI techniques to commercial and industrial problems, especially in areas in which the School has research expertise. It is designed both for recent graduates and working professionals, such as software designers, who want to enhance their knowledge with the latest developments in applied artificial intelligence. The programme opens up a wide range of employment opportunities and can also act as a foundation for PhD research in the application of novel techniques to complex problems. Modules cover the core areas of: search strategies; machine learning; knowledge discovery and data mining; neural networks; evolutionary computation techniques; e-science, grid computing and agent technologies; and applications of AI techniques for solving real-world scientific and engineering problems.
