About Civil Engineering - Building Construction, Master Degree - at Politécnico de Leiria

The aim of this master's degree is to give a specialization of professional nature, allowing a sequence of studies to the holders of the degree in civil engineering, and similar areas, enabling the improvement of the knowledge acquired that ends in developments/original applications originated by the completion of a project/training. The graduate students of the study cycle should be able to:

Apply the knowledge and the capabilities to understand and to solve problems in new and non-familiar situations, in a broad and multidisciplinary context;
Combine knowledge, to deal with complex problems, to developed solutions, and to make judgments in situations of limited or incomplete information;
To communicate the conclusions, the knowledge, and foundations related, to specialists and non-specialists, in a direct and non-ambiguous way;
To develop a life-learning process in an autonomous mode.

Politécnico de Leiria is the first Polytechnic Institute in Portugal to be granted the EUR-ACE® label at the bachelor level in Civil Engineering recognized by ENAEE (European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education). The accreditation extended to Master in Civil Engineering as well recognizing quality in Civil Engineering programs at the School of Technology and Management of Leiria’s Polytechnic. The distinction confirms education quality in this particular field of study placing these programs among the best European universities and polytechnics.

May apply to the study cycle, leading to master’s degree:

Holders of a graduation degree or legal equivalent in the field of Civil Engineering and other related technological areas.
Holders of a foreign academic degree obtained in a 1st. study cycle organized according to the principles of the Bologna Process by a state acceding to this process, in the field of Civil Engineering and other related technological areas.
Holders of a foreign academic degree that is recognized as satisfying the objectives of a degree by the Technical and Scientific Council of the School of Technology and Management in the field of Civil Engineering and other related technology areas.
Holders of an academic, scientific, or professional curriculum recognized by the Technical and Scientific Council of the School of Technology and Management as attesting the capacity to complete this study cycle.

Portugal played a vital part in my life!

Learning (Education) is a never ending process and Portugal played a vital part in my life.

After my Bachelor degree I was looking forward to do my masters in Europe, where I found that IPLeiria was my best choice. The first year of study has 2 cycle with practical and theoretical assessments but the second year has its best advantage. For instance, the student has the option to do internship for 9 months to complete the course and of course I took internship. Many of tech companies were showed up during the time so that I could chose the one to do my internship. I was taken into one of the IT giants , learnt a lot and also it was a kick start to my career.

I loved all the lectures of my Professors.

I very much enjoyed doing all the university projects I collaborated on with my classmates. I loved all the lectures of my Professors. Also due to the late arrival of my visa I began my classes at the end of November and I had to cover my semester curriculum in one and a half month. I managed to complete the entire curriculum in a short span of time, through the support of professors, who were very helpful and always gave me extra classes so that I may be able to cover my curriculum in time. I also got a chance to do my Erasmus in Brussels and my coordinator was very accommodating all throughout that process. The hospitality of the Portuguese people is amazing.
