PhD Program with concentration on International Relations & Cultural Diplomacy – Bucharest University in cooperation with the ICD Academy for Cultural Diplomacy
The Doctoral studies represent the third cycle of studies offered by (and awarded by) the University of Bucharest in partnership with the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy with the purpose of expanding knowledge through original scientific research. They allow the acquisition of a level 8 qualification according to The European Qualifications Framework and to The National Qualifications Framework.
The PHD research will be done under one of the following departments of the university; Political Science/ Sociology/ History/ Philosophy/ Philology, and will have a special concentration in International Relations and Cultural Diplomacy though the courses held at the ICD Academy.
The program is a 3 year's program; in the first academic year, you will be required here in Berlin for at least 3 months, for the courses on Cultural Diplomacy. In addition, during the first year, the students will be guided with their research. At the end of first academic year of the PhD, students will be required to elaborate the first research report on their specific chosen topic as the commission of professors and, in particular, the student's individual supervisor will guide the student with the development of the thesis.
During the second and third year of the Ph.D program students are not obliged to reside in the doctoral school, but are required to stay in close and direct contact with the Doctoral supervisor. A working schedule is established in an individual agreement between the student and the PhD supervisor and will include at least two periods of presence at the University of Bucharest each academic year. During the presence in Bucharest, further to meetings with the PhD supervisors and continuing the work on the thesis, the PhD students will also interact with other doctoral students and members of the teaching staff with whom they share academic interests, and participate in the activities of the doctoral schools of the University of Bucharest..
During the second year progress reports are to be submitted according to a time schedule and a format established by the supervisor and the student, in compliance with the requirements of each doctoral school.
During the second and third years, according to the rules of the doctoral school where they are enrolled, the PhD students will submit 2-3 research reports, which they will have to present to a committee according to a schedule agreed with the PhD supervisor.
During the second semester of the third year, students are required to complete the thesis, and, once it has obtained the approval of the guiding commission and of the individual supervisor, students will submit their thesis for the public defense, which will take place in about 2-3 months after the thesis has received the approval of the PhD supervisor;
The final step of the Program is the public defense of the Thesis.
