About Business Informatics, BA - at Wroclaw University of Economics

The need to initiate Bachelor Studies in Business Informatics (BI) stems from a profound market demand in both academia and practice. This is the first BI program in Poland and sixth in Middle Europe. It fully complies with the requirements of the Bologna Process. The BI program is designed to produce graduates equipped to function in entry level business informatics positions with a strong basis for continued career growth. And so, a BI graduate will be acquainted with problem solving models, techniques and approaches; critical thinking and creativity concepts and techniques; leadership standards; codes of professional conduct; legal and regulatory standards.

The business part of the studies will acquaint a graduate with organizational theory and business models; the systems approach; evaluation of business performance; functional business areas, like marketing, human resources, logistics and manufacturing. The communication and team work studies will help understand and apply the issues of motivation, encouragement, negotiating and facilitating, and operation in a global, culturally diverse environment. Building a team, team decision making, operating in a virtual team environment are next exit characteristics of a BI graduate.

The computing part of the studies will develop the potential in collecting, summarizing and interpreting data; computer systems hardware and software; networking and telecommunications; operating systems management; personal use of information technology and information systems; Web page and Web architecture design and development, etc. The structure and sequence of the courses permit completion of the BI bachelor program in three years, with the teaching hours totaling 2007 and ECTS points equaling 180 for regular (resident) studies, and 1264 hours and 180 ECTS points for non-residents (weekend) studies. Wroclaw University of Economics employs an internationally experienced, fluently English-speaking academic staff, which ensures the highest quality of the BI studies. Also, visiting professors from renown world universities are taking part in this program.

Entry requirements

Completed Secondary School, basic knowledge of informatics and high level of English

Personal documents: 1. Passport (page with photo) - photocopy and original avaliable for inspection. 2. ID card with photo (applicable to European Union Citizens) - photocopy and original available for inspection, 3. Documents which allow candidate start studies on the basis applicable to Polish nationals: Card of Pole - Karta Polaka (if there is one) - photocopy and original available for inspection, Residence Card (if there is one) - photocopy and original available for inspection. 4. Two signed declarations about necessary financial meanings and agreement with National Health Found (NFZ). 5. Valid medical certificate with confirmation that candidate is allowed to study at chosen major. Certificate issued on form with letterhead and with readable clinic stamp and readable stamp of doctor with his sign. Certificate issued abroad not in Polish language has to be translated into Polish language by sworn translator. University approves certificates from Polish doctors (University is not allowed to issue referral or direct to clinic).

Education documents: 1. Original of graduation certificate of secondary education filed along with apostille or legalization issued by Polish Embassy with translation into Polish. Acceptable is only sworn translation made by: translator or person registered as sworn translator in European Union Countries or European Free Trade Association Countries - party of European Economic Area agreement or country member of Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, or made by Consul of the Republic of Poland in country where diploma was issued or accredited in Poland diplomatic representatives or consular office of country where diploma was issued. 2. The record of a didactic process (supplement) from the foreign school filed along with apostille or legalization issued by Polish Embassy with translation into Polish or English. Acceptable is only sworn translation made by: translator or person registered as sworn translator in European Union Countries or European Free Trade Association Countries - party of European Economic Area agreement or country member of Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, or made by Consul of the Republic of Poland in country where diploma was issued or accredited in Poland diplomatic representatives or consular office of country where diploma was issued.

Please notice – Legalization and apostille are required even if a given country signed an agreement lifting the necessity of an official recognition of foreign certificates and diplomas from a given country.

3. The record mentioned above should include the list of didactic courses, grades for those courses, the number of hours designed for those courses (the list of subjects and the list of received grades) as well as the scale of grades valid in a given country (in case this scale isn't included in secondary school diploma) - with sworn translation into Polish. In preliminary enrollment process acceptable is translation into Polish or English done by certified translator (not only sworn translation). 4. The certificate confirming that the candidate's graduation certificate for secondary education allows him/her to take up higher education studies at all types of higher education institutions in the country where the graduation certificate of secondary education was issued. Such certificate may be issued by the school which issued secondary school diploma or the equivalent of Ministry of Education ("Ministerstwo Oświaty") in a given country (in that case this document should be translated into Polish by a certified translator).

The certificate is not required if the proper information can be found on the graduation certificate of secondary education. Certificate is not required of persons who obtained IB Diploma (International Baccalaureate), EB Diploma (European Baccalaureate). 5. Certificate with recognition of secondary school diploma - issued as administrative decision by “Kurator oświaty” - which is formal confirmation that candidate has got education on high school level in Poland and has got right to continue studies enrolment process including. Original of this document has to be delivered to student's office until the end of first semester of studies. 6. Certificate of studies language proficiency - Polish or English (depends on language of studies). Minimum level: B2. Accepted English language certificates: First Certificate in English (FCE), Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), IELT. Separate certificate is not needed from persons who obtained their secondary school diploma in country, where needed language (Polish or English, depends on language of studies) is formal language and who was educated in this language.

Documents needed in further stages of enrolment: Proof of payment of enrolment fee - 85 PLN or 19 EUR, Proof of payment of tuition fee for first semester of studies (condition of getting acceptance letter for students who will study with tuition fee), ID photo (3,5 x 4,5 cm) – delivered with rest of documents and in .jpg file uploaded to enrolment system. Uploaded .jpg version in enrolment system is necessary to issue student’s ID, Photocopy of the insurance policy in case of illness or a personal accident insurance policy for the period of education in Poland or photocopy of a European Health Insurance Card (Europejska Karta Ubezpieczenia Zdrowotnego-EKUZ) or copy of valid agreement with National Health Fund (NFZ).

Candidate has to deliver along the originals of documents sworn translation into Polish of all demanded documents (the sworn translation into Polish is necessary even though documents are in English language). In preliminary enrollment process acceptable is translation into Polish or English done by certified translator (not only sworn translation). Candidate has to deliver photocopies of all required documents.
