Study a Design Masters abroad in 2025

Take your design credentials to the next level.

A masters degree in design is a good opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge you already have, advancing your abilities and understanding of the way things are designed, created and used. Taking 1-2 years to complete, a design masters degree will include a variety of modules, a lot of which are more specialised than at undergraduate level.

A masters in design as a standalone subject will look more intensely at how products and processes are created, starting with the concept, and moving through to the manufacturing and usage of that product or process. The aim of a designer, regardless of discipline, is to improve the way things look and how they work.

At the postgraduate level, a degree in design is more likely to be focused on a more specific subject area. As well as this, you could also study a specialised degree in a subdiscipline of design. These could include:

Admission Requirements

Admission into a masters degree in design normally requires a bachelor's degree in a related subject. Some programs will take students from other subject areas. There might be more specific entry requirements, you can find more information about this on the StudyLink course pages, or on institution websites.

If your masters degree is taught in English, you may be required to provide evidence of your language proficiency. This can be done with IELTS or TOEFL test results, which are commonly accepted by universities around the world.

Tuition Fees

International students usually have to pay tuition fees, but the amount can depend on your home country and where you want to study. There are often financial assistance options available to you. More information about this can be found in the course descriptions on StudyLink, or on the institution websites.

Careers

As a graduate of a masters degree in design will be well prepared to take the next step towards your future. You might choose to take on further study, such as a PhD or other research degree, or pursue a more advanced role within a field of your choice. Career options include working in arts management, publishing, editing, design critique, or public relations, among others.
