A masters degree in counselling (sometimes spelled counseling) and psychotherapy will allow you to develop yourself and improve your knowledge within the mental health and wellbeing world. Sometimes a counselling and psychotherapy masters degree is a way for you to move from one career to another.
Usually taking 1-2 years to complete when studied full-time, a masters degree in counselling and psychotherapy will prepare you for your career. You might study modules such as personal and professional development, mental health and wellbeing, and advanced psychology. Depending on your degree, you might also have the opportunity to study a specific approach within psychology, your university can provide more information about this.
Admission Requirements
Admission to a masters degree in counselling and psychotherapy normally requires a bachelors degree in a related field, or relevant professional experience. Some universities might accept students who have previously studied in other subject areas. There may be other academic requirements, you can find out more about this from your university.
You will likely also have to provide evidence of your language proficiency, unless you are exempt from these requirements. If your degree is taught in English, you can do this with TOEFL or IELTS test results. These are the two most widely accepted language tests at universities around the world.

International students are required to pay tuition fees in most countries. You might be eligible for financial assistance in the form of a scholarship or grant. It is important to do your research so that you understand the cost of studying abroad and the financial aid options available to you.
Careers
Graduates of a masters degree in counselling and psychotherapy will have an advanced knowledge of the field, and will be well prepared to take on a career. You might choose to work within the counselling profession, or in an allied field like education, nursing or social work. You could also choose to pursue further studies, like a PhD or research degree.
