Course Overview
The 4 year BEng Energy and Environmental Engineering programme is intended to provide you with a thorough grounding in mechanical engineering science and its application to design and the solution of a range of engineering problems in the context of the engineering industry. The inclusive foundation year is designed to develop your mathematical, analytical and study skills, to equip you with the necessary academic skills required to successfully study engineering at a degree level.
The BEng Energy and Environmental Engineering programme is intended to provide students with a thorough grounding in mechanical engineering science and then apply this to the environment. In addition, students will develop knowledge in a suitable range of manufacturing processes and materials. The programme will also consider environmental aspects of design and technology and will enable students to gain a range of skills, relevant to a broad range of employment opportunities.
Key Features
Everyone is a student of the University of Life however some of the lessons learnt can take a long time to be recognised and understood. Studying for a degree is a means of identifying where problems exist in any given industry and the understanding how potential solutions, learnt through a programme of study, can help to avoid or mitigate the effects of these problems. A structured programme allows a student to build upon lessons learnt and reflect upon the impacts of decisions made.
Modules
The foundation year is designed to develop your mathematical, analytical and study skills, to equip you with the necessary academic skills required to successfully study engineering at a degree level. Your academic skills will be developed through engineering relevant modules including Mathematics, Engineering Science, Study Skills and IT, Manufacturing Technology and an Engineering Project.

Assessment
Students on this type of programme come with a natural interest in their specialism and the teaching team aims to tap into this interest so students enjoy learning and appreciate the benefits which an engineering degree with a specialism, can add to reinforce their areas of interest.
The assessments for the programme will be a mix of coursework and formal examination. Modules such as group project and Major project will also have presentations where you would be given the opportunity to showcase your work.
Career Opportunities
This industry consists of many highly specialised companies designing and manufacturing innovative environmental and energy solutions for both small and large-scale industries. There is clear demand for students to gain employment in this field, with demand for graduates predicted to rise by over 20% over the next ten years. Many of the positions available offer excellent starting salaries to graduates with good career progression prospects.
