The Master of Arts in the field of Linguistics (MA) offers postgraduate-level education to people who want to engage as professionals in the study of languages, bilingualism and multilingualism. The curriculum is particularly strong in language typology and language contact, psycholinguistics and phonology, and capitalises on Hong Kong's multilingual environment.
The programme includes two core courses which cover core linguistic topics, providing a solid foundation to candidates for a thorough understanding of the theories and methods of linguistic research and teaching. Candidates can choose five additional elective courses from an array of advanced topics designed to develop the ability to apply linguistic theories to new problems, especially in the context of linguistic diversity in its social, educational and political dimensions.
A central component of our programme is the dissertation, which prepares students to conduct independent research in linguistics.
