About Bachelor of Social Sciences, BSocSc - at The University of Hong Kong

Programme Aims and Features

The ideal choice for students who are interested in studying human behaviour and society, or who wish to become future leaders in public service, education, industry and commerce. The flexible programme structure provides students with freedom to decide which discipline they want to major in after the first year of study, without any quota constraint. Off-campus learning is emphasised, with internships and overseas academic exchanges providing opportunities for students to apply the knowledge they have acquired in the real world and enhance their international exposure.

Students can choose to major in any of six core disciplines: China Studies; Geography; Politics and Public Administration; Psychology; Social Work and Social Administration; and Sociology. They can also opt for a multidisciplinary programme as another major: Cognitive Science; Counselling; Criminology; Global Studies; Media and Cultural Studies; and Urban Governance. Students can also opt for a second major or a minor in a variety of disciplines in the Faculties of Arts, Business and Economics, Engineering, Law and Science.
