About this course

Our MSc programme is designed for both practising professionals and graduates in:

The flexible nature of this programme allows you to specialise in one of two streams:

  • Transport Infrastructure and Systems
  • Business Management

Specialist streams

This programme has two specialist streams:

Transport Infrastructure and Systems Stream

You will focus on the design of transport infrastructure. You'll also engage with road safety including policy and practice, economics and planning, that impact upon transport infrastructure.

Skills and practical experience gained will transfer to a range of careers in organisations such as design consultancies and local authorities.

This stream will also equip you with the knowledge and skills that underpin effective transport systems. You'll develop an understanding of behaviour and future technology needs.

You will gain a variety of practical and theoretical skills required to provide a solid grounding for a career in organisations such as: consultancies; local, regional or national planning authorities; and public transport operators.

Business Management Stream

This stream will allow you to gain knowledge and experience of business development, planning and enterprise within the science and engineering sector.

You will identify, evaluate and research the viability of a range of business ideas.

Skills gained in leadership, planning, organisational, interpersonal and problem-solving can be applied to a range of careers.

Accreditation

The course is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) (comprising ICE, IStructE, CIHT and IHIE), as meeting the requirements for Further Learning for a Chartered Engineer (CEng) for students with an Accredited CEng (Partial) BEng Honours degree or Accredited IEng (Full) BEng/BSc Honours degree.

It is accredited by the CIHT / TPS (Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation / Transport Planning Society), as meeting the knowledge requirements for the Chartered Transport Planning Professional Qualification. This provides a route to Chartered status for those without a first degree in engineering.

Entry requirements

2:2 honours degree, or international equivalent, in:

  • any engineering or science subject
  • geography
  • town planning
  • maths
  • any other closely related or relevant discipline

Relevant professional experience is welcome, but not required.

We will consider your application on an individual basis if you have lower or non-standard qualifications and significant, relevant professional experience.

International Students

To study this course you need to meet our Band 2 English Language Requirements.

Direct Entry: IELTS 6.5 overall (with a minimum of 5.5 in all sub-skills).

If you have lower English Language scores, you may be accepted onto a Pre-sessional English course.

Our typical English Language requirements are listed as IELTS scores but we also accept a wide range of English Language tests.
