About Professional Certificate of Competency in Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning, Professional Certificate - at Engineering Institute of Technology

Diesel generating plants have an important role in power plants as well as in industries and commercial installations to meet continuous and emergency standby power requirements. A good knowledge of basic operation principles, layout requirements, associated components and maintenance practices for diesel power plants help the career development of many engineers and technicians in today’s world. Whatever your role in industry – designer, purchase engineer, installation contractor or maintenance engineer – a solid knowledge of diesel power plants is always useful. This interactive online course is designed to allow you to become familiar with various aspects of diesel generating power plants for practical application in three (3) months.

Examples will be taken from various industrial standard practices regarding the construction, layouts, application and maintenance procedures followed for reliable and trouble free operation of diesel power plants. The various tests to be conducted during commissioning and maintenance checks to ensure proper and long term operation of diesel power plants will also be covered in the course.

Some of the essential systems such as fuel oil layouts, lube oil requirements and control circuitry will also be covered.

Santosh Ghimire: Driven by a Mission to Make Renewable Energy Available for Developing Countries

EIT Master of Engineering student, Santosh Ghimire, had to use a kerosene lamp to study and do his homework while growing up. His formative years in Nepal meant he was part of a sizable portion of the population that didn’t have access to electricity at home.

Then came a big shift, when Santosh decided to enrol in EIT’s Master of Engineering (Industrial Automation) in 2019, and pursue it on-campus in Australia.

He had cognizance that while the energy demand is ever-increasing, the use of fossil fuels to generate energy doesn’t have a future. He knows the search for alternative, sustainable, and renewable energy sources will be the next great leap to ensure developing nations have adequate energy for years to come.

“Development of technologies has dropped the cost of energy produced by renewable technologies, which is now comparable with energy from traditional power plants. As renewable energy technologies are environmentally friendly and the sources are sustainable, a small contribution may be the foundation for the future of the power system,” Santosh believes.

Martin Masemola: More Than Just a Qualification in Engineering

Martin Masemola started studying with the plan of obtaining a Master of Engineering degree. He is now one of EIT's first students in our flagship Doctor of Engineering program.

Martin’s quest to obtain a Master of Engineering degree started in 2003. As a student from South Africa and working full-time as an engineer, there was little option but to enroll in a programme that molded around his needs.

While his career was thriving, the itch to complete a postgraduate qualification was still there. And that’s when online education became a viable option.

"I was involved early with EIT when they conducted several surveys on online education when I learned the Master of Engineering qualification were being offered, I checked if the programme would allow me to register as Professional Engineer or if it was a Washington Accord accredited qualification.”

Shashi Senevirathna: Going Further With EIT’s Master of Engineering in Industrial Automation

Currently studying EIT's Master of Engineering (Industrial Automation) at our Melbourne campus and recently appointed as EIT's on-campus Higher Education Ambassador, Shashikala Senevirathna is the definition of a well-rounded engineer.

Fondly known as Shashi, she started her education pathway in engineering a decade ago at the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka. Shashi graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science of Engineering (Mechanical) Honors and since then never really slowed down in terms of not only working in the field of engineering but gaining as much knowledge and experience as possible.

Her current enrollment at EIT to complete a Master of Engineering (Industrial Automation) and her Master degrees in Professional Accounting (MPA) and Masters in Business Administration (MBA) attests to that.

Having knowledge of business and administration is however just the icing on top of the cake.

Shashi graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science of Engineering (Mechanical) Honors and since then never really slowed down in terms of not only working in the field of engineering but gaining as much knowledge and experience as possible.

“My mom always tells me, learn something new, read something new - you never know when there will be some use for it one day,” she muses.
