About International Public Health, MSc - at University of Liverpool

This programme equips graduates to provide leadership and technical support in public health in middle and low income countries. It covers the whole breadth of public and global health, including key disciplinary skills in epidemiology and social science and applied topics such as disease control and programme management.

Students can follow one of four pathways, which are distinguished by a defined combination of Core and Recommended modules and by a dissertation project on a topic appropriate to the pathway. Students have the opportunity of spending a period of seven-weeks outside the UK undertaking a client-based or student initiated dissertation project, which enables them to practise their problem solving skills and specialist knowledge in a real setting. The project is often commissioned by health ministries, non-governmental organisations or international health agencies in middle and low income countries.

Entry requirements

The MSc in International Public Health programme is open to graduates of health-related and relevant disciplines to the pathways. Non-graduates with a suitable training background or research experience are also eligible for consideration, provided they can demonstrate learning, analytical and communication abilities sufficient to benefit from the programme. The programme requires the candidate to have gained at least two years’ professional experience in the health or health related sectors in low or middle income countries prior to admission to the programme. International qualifications Applications from international students are welcome. International qualifications will be evaluated in line with the National Recognition Information Centre (NARIC) guidelines. English language qualifications The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine’s courses are linguistically very demanding and it is essential that all candidates have a very high level of both spoken and written English. For candidates whose first language is not English, most programmes require a minimum IELTS score of 7.0 OR a minimum TOEFL score of 570 (paper based), or 88iBT. IELTS 7.0 TOEFL iBT 88 TOEFL Paper 570
