The Insurance Law LLM equips you with the knowledge, skills and practical tools you will need to understand insurance law, its practice and how it is regulated. Study to practice law in the insurance industry, the second biggest industry in the UK after banking. Gain your experience in London, one of the world's leading centres for the industry, and home to the Lloyd's insurance market.
Your studies will cover all aspects of the contractual principles and regulation of insurance and reinsurance. Whilst studying the back letter law relating to insurance contracts and the regulation of insurance activities, we will also be taking a practice-oriented approach by looking at current issues facing the insurance industry, looking at case studies, examining policy wordings and inviting guest speakers from the insurance industry and law firms. In the past, students at the Insurance Law LLM had the opportunity to visit Lloyd's and insurance law firms. Course covenors seek to integrate their cutting-edge research into their modules where appropriate.
You can also choose some modules from the wider LLM offering. Please note that not all modules will be available in any one year.
You will be offered a varied selection of taught modules from which you can choose, enabling you to gear your qualification to set you on your desired career trajectory. You do not have to choose your modules until you have had the opportunity to learn about them in greater detail during your comprehensive induction period.
You will have voluntary access to an excellent series of lectures in Critical Thinking and Writing in Law to help you to improve your writing and research in law skills.
